Landtag – Hanover – Greens call for more corona protection for children – politics
Hanover (dpa / lni) – Children and young people must be better protected against infections, also with a view to possible further corona waves, according to the Greens in the Lower Saxony state parliament. Many parents and children are concerned about the high number of cases and are afraid of having to be in quarantine, said Green MP Volker Bajus on Tuesday. “The pressure in the families, the pressure on the children is very high.”
There is room for improvement in the school sector, especially in terms of air filters, staggered school start times and the capacities for PCR pool tests. “That would be the least you have to prepare for the fall,” said Bajus. He also criticized the mandatory test introduced in daycare centers in mid-February as too late. In addition, the country does not provide child-friendly lollipop tests. Psychosocial offers for children are also neglected despite the high stress in the pandemic, said Bajus.
The Ministry of Education rejected the criticism. “In no other country is there more testing than in Lower Saxony. With daily school tests and tests for every kindergarten child three times a week, we set the highest standards nationwide. said a ministry spokesman.
2,700 mobile air cleaning devices for schools are currently being procured from a state program. According to this, more money is flowing into Lower Saxony from a corresponding federal program than would normally be provided.
Regarding the required PRC pool tests, the spokesman said that the omicron wave shows the weakness of the PCR tests. “The children go to school infected, test there, spend the school day with their classmates, spread the virus and only receive feedback the following day that one or more infections have occurred in the class.” To demand this procedure at the moment is out of ignorance or simply irresponsible.
