Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko in an interview with Parliamentary Newspaper announcedthat Russia is ready to discuss proposals for security guarantees.
Russia’s security guarantee initiatives are not an ultimatum, she said, as they want unilateral gains. “We are not asking for anything impossible. We are ready to discuss threat proposals and look for mutually acceptable solutions. And we will continue and build up the dialogue on security guarantees,” she said.
Matvienko added that Moscow is monitoring the creation of a collective security system for all of Europe and for the world as a whole. “Because security is one and indivisible,” she said.
At the same time, the chairman of the Federation Council gathered that the Russian side could not carry on a dialogue indefinitely. “The initial condition remains the source – guaranteed security of the country. Let him not hope that Russia will make unilateral concessions,” she said.
Earlier, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the response of the United States and NATO countries to their message on security guarantees would be met by Vladimir Putin when the moment was right.
