Strong draw! Lupo/Martini fights a 2:2 test against regional league team HSC Hannover
Strong performance: Oberliga club Lupo/Martini took a small step in preparation for the championship round of the soccer Oberliga with another draw against regional league club HSC Hannover. In the 2-2 draw against the higher-class guests from the state capital, Wolfsburg presented their usual dominant style of play, much to the delight of coach Giampiero Buonocore: “It was important for us to get confirmation for the game against a regional league team. The fact that we were able to keep it going throughout the game makes the result very flattering for the opponent.”

Hannover only had two real chances throughout the game, both of which came from standard situations. “We can still work on getting such situations under control in the coming weeks,” said Buonocore.
Friendly match: Lupo/Martini Wolfsburg versus HSC Hannover
Lupo would have had enough chances to decide the game for himself if necessary. Timon Hallmann only had to insert the two goals of the Italians. In other cases, however, the chances were not played out cleanly, and Maxim Safronov failed to hit the inside post with a free kick minutes before the end. “In the last third, the boys have to get a little hotter and score dirty goals,” said Buonocore, who was able to get all the available players onto the pitch to give them “experience with the speed and power of a regional league team”.
In contrast to the previous games, coach Buonocore emphasized the work against the ball this time, in the build-up of the opponents this would have led to some ball wins. The good performances of his players in terms of the starting line-up would bring him the prospect of the approaching start of the Oberliga game operation. “The boys played a great game today,” said Buonocore.
The next two tests for the Wolfsburg team are next week, with away games at SV Calberlah (Tuesday, from 7 p.m.) and MTV Wolfenbüttel (Sunday, from 2 p.m.).
