Stay away from Brussels and the ring on Monday
The Brussels Capital Police Zone Electricity ban on driving vehicles. The ban applies in Brussels from midnight on Saturday 12 February until 8 a.m. on Tuesday 15 February and can be extended if necessary. From today, Saturday 12 February, there is also a ban on motorized convoys in Ghent until Sunday 20 February.
The ‘freedom convoy’ was announced on Monday 14 February in the center of Brussels, which has been banned following the decision of the Minister-President of the Brussels-Capital Region and the Mayor of Brussels. If necessary, the police will restrict the access of motorized convoys to the Brussels Region. Drivers who want to bet with their vehicle can do so at a specially provided place, namely parking C of the Heysel (Brussels Expo). Only here will a static action with motorized vehicles be tolerated. The parking is accessible via the Ring RO around Brussels.
The police advise anyone who does not necessarily have to be in Brussels on Monday 14 February to avoid the Brussels-Capital Region and the Ring around Brussels. If you have to be in Brussels anyway, it is best to travel by public transport.
The Federal Police will monitor traffic towards Brussels. There will be a presence along the major arterial roads and in the first instance will make contact with drivers, what can and cannot be done (by means of one and accompany them when they drive in convoy. Only in the second instance will the police check and intervene, for example when a group of drivers still wants to enter Brussels or when they start taking action on the motorways.
Both the police and the public prosecutors of Brussels and Halle-Vilvoorde will give priority to targeting the safety of residents and commuters to and from the capital. This includes that, if first and foremost is sent administratively, it is possible and judicially when necessary. Police, Federal Police and both public prosecutors are in close local consultation with each other.
We cannot anticipate future future consequences, but on simple consequences we can give you an overview of the current context of the potential and what the consequences will be.
The local and federal police will communicate and take stock at appropriate times.
