Debrecen – At the last moments, with a one-point lead in Kaposvár, the triple Thames brought the success of the team of the University of Debrecen.
His direct rival, the Kaposvár team, which is in the 5th place in the league table, was received on Saturday by the 6th place DEAC team.
It was a vital match for both guards to get into the upper house playoffs.
The DEAC basketball team was awarded in Körmend recently, and the people of Debrecen were left without points against Sopron and Szolnok, and according to the professional managers, they have to perform better in the best defense so that they can enjoy the victory against the people of Somogy.
The first quarter brought a balanced battle, the second a DEAC lead, so the teams took a break from the 47-40 home lead. The guest from Somogy was not given up, they worked out all their disadvantages in the next stage, so the final ten minutes started at 66-63.
Our guests were panting behind the DEAC. A minute before the end of the match, the score was 79-80, but Thames’ triple successfully reversed the result, so with this important victory, the people of Debrecen once again caught up with the top of the championship.
The people of Somogy got out again after five victories, while the people of Debrecen won three more defeats. Captain Castle American Legionnaire Martin Wayne threw 35 points and scored 11 rebounds.

DEAC: ASKA 26, Hagins 12, THAMES 14, Valerio 4, DRENOVAC 15 – replacement: Polyák 9, Kovács A. 2, Kerpel-Fronius G. – Head coach: Jorgosz Vovorasz
DEAC-Tungsram beat Kaposvár KK in the 20th round of the Tippmix men’s NB I. A round. The home team was still one point behind 17 seconds before the end, but in the end Xavier Thames ended the match with a three-point lead.
Vorgorasz Jorgosz and Ádám Tóth could not count on his two key players in the collision he suffered during Thursday’s training, while he could not take on the game due to Jeletovics’ illness.
The meeting starts near Aska, yet the guests started better, producing a 12-2 series in the first minutes. In the sequel, DEAC only ran after the result, and the task of the professional staff was further complicated by the fact that Aska soon ran into fault dust problems, so Kovács replaced him in the middle of the quarter. This did not break the momentum of the people of Hajdúság, who managed to catch up with the three-pointers of Thames and then Hagins (19-20). Although the Polyák had several balls for the translation, they were unable to take advantage of the opportunities, so after ten minutes of play, the scoreboard showed a 22-23 score.
The second stage starts with Hagins’ triple, so after a long time the University of Debrecen took the lead again, and after the distance of Polyák, there were already five of them (28-23). He caught the yarn in the attack with DEAC, Aska with two plus single action, and after another three of Polyák, the gap widened further (36-29). Valerio-B bounced the audience in a huge bag, but the Martin-Hilla-Ford trio’s feet stabilized at a difference of around eight points. Somo scored 38 points in the first half, 38, but the parties could go into the locker room with 47-40 of the great team game in Debrecen.
The Hungarians did not know what to do with the key people of Kaposvár either, after three minutes the Debrecen forum melted and Vovorasz asked for time (53-52). Kaposvár turned for two with Martin, but they couldn’t be happy with the lead for a long time, as with five points in the Drenovac series, the host was again in the lead (58-54). The blue jerseys took advantage of the lack of high men in Debrecen, as the throws in Hajdúság did not sit again at the end of the quarter. However, the quarter ended with the moments of the Civiz towns, with Aska’s ziccer and Drenovac’s last-second tempo waiting for the final act with three units (66-63).
Kerpel-Fronius starts the final stage with the ball’s assertions, and after Polyák’s three-pointer, Lazics was forced to take a one-minute break (73-65). The dolphins caught up with penalties, but in the absence of Tóth, the DEAC kept the advantage in the inspired form of basketball player Aska. Kaposvár Price’s three-pointers ran a 10-0 period, so half a minute before the end they had the advantage (79-80). Thames threw an incredibly important three-pointer at 17 seconds per hour from the man, and since he was no longer able to get a basket for the guests from the last attack, he managed to break a series of three-game wins for the Civilians.
With this victory, DEAC swapped places with Kaposvár on the table and is again in fifth place in the league, reaching the upper house.
George Vovoras head coach, DEAC:
– We have had an amazingly important triumph, especially in light of the negative series of recent weeks. This match reached a final. Unfortunately, two of our important players fell out of line before the meeting, so the boys had an extra burden, especially at the center post. Fatigue had its effect in the endgame, but luckily we saved the league points with Xavier Thames ’triple release at the key moment.
Head coach Nikola Lazics, Kaposvár:
– We also had aggravating factors, as we had a rather incomplete framework for the battle. Overall, DEAC deservedly won, we played with a lot of mistakes, and in some places we played basketball very impatiently. Even so, we had a match ball at the very end, which unfortunately we couldn’t use.
