The introduction of the speed limit 30 in Budapest was raised again
The petition addressed to Mayor Gergely Karácsony and Secretary of State Balázs Fürjes draws attention to the fact that due to the current system, residents of Budapest are anxiously letting their children take to the streets and the possibility of cycling often fails due to the dangers. and quickly accidentally dangerous.
The NGOs formulated their demands in four points that could make the Budapest transport system safer:
- Initiate amendments to the relevant legislation to give priority to active modes of transport. (For example, the weight and value of the vehicle should be taken into account when setting the fine for traffic infringement proceedings.)
- Initiate the introduction of a general speed limit of 30 km / h in Budapest, following the example of Brussels, Graz, Paris and many other European cities.
- Initiate the traffic calming of the main roads as soon as possible (for some of them, for example, Kossuth Lajos utca and Rákóczi út have already been planned).
- Develop a coherent, avoidance-free cycling network separate from motor vehicle traffic.
Civilians are satisfied that fifty people die on the roads of Budapest every year and almost a thousand suffer serious injuries due to the current transport system. Most of the victims are the weakest and most vulnerable road users, pedestrians and cyclists.
