Will he soon have his own transport company? Alderman Knowledge makes proposal at opening P+R Linkeroever | Antwerp
AntwerpAlderman Koen Kennis (N-VA) submitted a proposal on Wednesday. He argues for the establishment of an Antwerp Transport Company and sees Lantis as the ideal candidate. “I note that there is still far too little cooperation between the various partners in the field of mobility.”
P+R Linkeroever is the last of three wonderful Park and Rides in a radius around Antwerp. The range of easily accessible and cheap parking spaces on the outskirts of the city amounts to almost 4,000 places. “When I was here on a site visit a while ago, someone in the company said that he had the feeling that he was in Paris of Berlin, he was so impressed with the infrastructure,” said Alderman for Mobility Koen Kennis (N-VA). ). “However, we must ensure that this beautiful infrastructure is also optimally used, and that is where the pinch is.”
No combi ticket
Despite the insistence of client Lantis, the public transport company De Lijn has not accepted the proposal to prevent a combination ticket for the use of parking and tram. Something that does exist abroad. Even the signage was not completed in time. “De Lijn is only concerned with running trams and buses. The Roads and Traffic Agency limits itself to carpooling. We will of course not be able to achieve combi-mobility in this way. There is actually a need for a transport company that can work in an umbrella. I therefore make the suggestions to take Antwerp as a pilot project for this. And with Lantis, we actually already have the perfect candidate to make this happen.”
Kennis made the call in the presence of Flemish Minister of Mobility Lydia Peeters (Open Vld). She was present on Wednesday at the official opening of the P+R Linkeroever. She fully endorses the idea of a combination ticket for the use of the parking and tram. “In the meantime, I have commissioned De Lijn to investigate this. It would indeed be logical if one could park the car and transfer to the tram with one ticket.”
60 new trams on the way
Minister Peeters said that a total of 46 million euros will be designed in the three Parks and that because the government wants to focus more on created combined mobility in the future. “Whether it’s to buy, work or for a culture… Here you can park your car for only 1 euro and if men drive electrically, men can charge their start. With a frequency of 18 trams per duration, there is a wide range towards the center of Antwerp. According to the minister, a large number of new trams are on the way. “60 in the third quarter of 2022. A new one will be deployed every two weeks.”
