Plateau’s Boucherie Slovenia closes this month
Popular Montreal butcher shop and sandwich – and a staple of the boulevard St-Laurent – Boucherie Slovenia has announced that it intends to close its business by the end of the month.
The Plateau, best known for its hearty mustard sandwiches stuffed with cured meats, homemade sauerkraut and pickles, will close after 50 years of operation. posting on Facebook from the owners Lourdes Rodrigues and and Jean Teixeira.
The post invites customers to share their memories of the store in comments, but came across dozens of reports of local workers visiting over lunch, praise for “the best spicy sausage sandwiches in town” and lamentations about the impending loss of another Eastern European bar. schools in Maine. (Fabled Montreal steak Moishes, founded by a Romanian immigrant, closed its doors in 2020 at a location a few hundred meters north on the boulevard, but the city center is expected to reopen later this year.)
A spokesman for the restaurant, who received a comment via email, told Eater that the store “receives a lot of love and support from everyone” and that the team is looking forward to enjoying the rest of the days with customers.
The butcher will serve the final sandwich and cherry soda on January 29th.
