The Russian men’s biathlon team fought desperately to implement the quota for the Olympic Games in Beijing, which allows six people to enter the Games. Our biathletes have failed the race of the season. The sprint in Ruhpol decided everything. Before the start, it is natural that the men’s team will not achieve any expected quota. To send six people to the Games, it was necessary to be in the top three in the Nations Cup according to the results of the World Cup stages in Ruhpolding. Norway and France were in any case out of reach for the men’s team, but it was possible to catch up and overtake Germany and Sweden in theory. But this is only in theory. All those scandals and intrigues that enveloped Russian biathlon in the offseason did not give hope for a bright future. And it took and came. Our guys suddenly started churning out medals and outstanding performances. And after a super successful passage in Oberhof, the gap from the third-placed Germans was controlled to 55 points. This is a sprint and relay race. Yesterday the sprint race was on the schedule. In Russia and the recognition of the problem. Team leaders Eduard Latypov and Johannes Kühn were unable to compete after testing positive for coronavirus. The situation leveled off, and the task turned out to be simple and contradictory. The sprint count includes the results of the top three athletes from each country. The beauty of the team of Yuri Kaminsky and Sergei Bashkirov is that absolutely any biathlete can shoot. Therefore, the intrigue had to hold on to the very end. Loginov flunked the “stand”, Babikov looked weak in parts of the path, Serokhvostov and Tsvetkov gave freedom, but were still excluded from the ideal form. As a result, fragile dreams were assigned to Khalili and Povarnitsyn, but they did not approach growth either. And among the Germans, Benedict Doll ended in husband, and Eric Lesser – sixth. It was the end. Now it is easy for coaches to puzzle over who to take to the Olympics. Seven people apply for five places. And even eight, if Vasily Tomshin’s candidacy is still chosen. Loginov’s place at the Games is not questioned. Kaminsky has spoken about this more than once. If everything is in order with Latypov’s health, then he, of course, will go to China. Daniil Serokhvostov. But for the remaining two places there will be a battle. For now, it is a little preferable to the local residents of Tsvetkov. And it’s amazing that Maxim actually completed three racing years. In the sprint race in Ruhpolding, Karim Khalili made a good bid. First of all, a good ski run. But you shouldn’t discount either Babikov or Povarnitsyn, of course, as Anton brilliantly spent the stage in Oberhof. One unsuccessful race is not a cause for panic. It will be all the more interesting to watch the remaining events at the Olympics in the men’s biathlon. It seems that the battle for the Olympic ticket in the Russian national team will be the highlight of the season.
