Many buildings in Budapest would be protected by the City Hall
The local government of the capital plans to amend the local government decree on the protection of the settlement, writes Architect Forum – so that newer buildings in Budapest can be protected. Within the framework regulated by the Decree, on the basis of initiatives and professional examinations, I, II., III., V., VII., VIII., XI., XII., XIII., XIV. XVI., XVIII., XXI. a list of buildings worthy of heritage protection has been drawn up for the district.
Among them are, among others, the Hilton Hotel, the main building of the Southern Railway Station, the Diplomatic House planned to be demolished, the children’s home on Cseppkő Street, the II. District Headquarters, the Circular Hotel, the Station Buildings of the Pioneer Railway, the Experimental Housing Estate in Óbuda, the former office building of Chemolimpex, the Hungarian Theater in Pest, the Sándor Street Hospital and Hospital in Péterffy The Kútvölgyi Road Clinic office building, the Beloiannisz Telecommunications Factory, the internal clinical block of Semmelweis University, and several residential buildings.
The main purpose of the regulation is as stated in its explanatory memorandum readable, “Protecting the outstanding elements of the architectural heritage that determine the cityscape and history of Budapest, preserving its characteristic character for future generations. The demolition of architectural values and the interventions under them that would disturb the architectural values can be enforced by placing a protection. ”
The documents required for the amendment will be prepared with the involvement of the public and the provision of the public, so a public forum will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2022, starting at 3 pm in the Hall of the Mayor’s Office (1052 Budapest, Városház utca 9-11).
