Dortmund wins in Frankfurt: first 0-2 deficit – then triumph
As of: January 8th, 2022 8:22 pm
Eintracht Frankfurt was unable to continue its successful streak from December in the Bundesliga. Against Borussia Dortmund, the Hessians lost a comfortable lead in 2: 3 (2: 0).
The goals for Eintracht on Saturday (January 8th, 2022) were scored by Rafael Borré, who was successful in the 15th and 26th minutes. Thorgan Hazard scored the next goal for Borussia in the 72nd minute, Jude Bellingham made it 2-2 in the 87th minute. Mahmoud Dahoud scored two minutes later to win. With this, Borussia reduced the gap to leaders Bayern Munich to six points.
“The team reacted well after falling behind and made a real step forward in terms of ‘attitude’,” said BVB coach Marco Rose in front of the ARD microphone. Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner said: “Sometimes you need a hard lesson to come to from. Today we received that lesson.”
Frankfurt’s first hit blocks BVB
The Dortmund team started very enthusiastically and aggressively in the empty stadium in Frankfurt. The attack efforts of Bayern pursuer number one ebbed but as spontaneously as they had started. And that after Eintracht was immediately successful with their first chance to score: Borré sank a free-kick cross from Filip Kostic in the 15th minute from eleven meters. BVB keeper Gregor Kobel was still on the ball with his hands, but could not prevent the impact.
BVB was shocked – and then completely lost its line. Frankfurt combined nun and increasingly pushed the Dortmunders back. And Borré proved that he has now really arrived in Frankfurt. In the 24th minute, the summer newcomer knocked the ball after Daichi Kamada’s preparatory work skillfully from the turn into the far corner – 2-0. Die Eintracht almost made it 3-0, but Evan Ndicka and Jesper Lindström gave away shortly before or after half-time.
Hazard brings excitement, Dahoud scores to win
The party then ripples along – BVB struggled to get a line in its game, Frankfurt limited itself to defense. It almost got boring – until Thorgan Hazard came on (66th) and struck five minutes later: After preliminary work by Erling Haaland and Marco Reus, he coolly marked the 2-1 from 16 meters.
And then the black and yellow even managed the no longer considered possible victory: two Bellingham equalized in the 87 minute after Meunier’s cross, and minutes later Dahoud scored with a wonderful 17-meter shot to make it 3-2 Victory.
Eintracht Frankfurt plays next Sunday (3:30 p.m.) at FC Augsburg. Borussia Dortmund receives SC Freiburg on Friday evening (8.30 p.m.).
