Antwerp to install first fast charging stations in September (Antwerp)
After finding a new concessionaire in September last year, the installation of charging stations for electric cars is moving again. Five new charging stations have been approved by the city council. The first fast charging stations will appear in September.

TotalEnergies is responsible for installing public chargers on the public domain in Antwerp for two years. The search for a new concessionaire has been quite difficult. As a result, a waiting list has arisen in the applications.
The city received 580 applications. These are not all new applications, as some of them were already in the pipeline pending the agreement with TotalEnergies. 89 of the questions passed the ‘loading ladder’ test. In order to come for a charging point, you must live or work in Antwerp, you must not have charging facilities on your own property and you must not have a charging station within a distance of 250 meters.
“The aim is to fully process the waiting list this spring,” says Koen Kennis (N-VA), alderman for Mobility.
At the end of December, the Council of Aldermen approved five new charging stations: Berchemlei 15 (Borgerhout), Van Notenstraat 89 (Deurne), Kloosterstraat 84 (Ekeren), Paardebloemlaan 6 (Ekeren) and Veltwijcklaan 31 (parking district Ekeren).
In January, another seven council of aldermen will be approved. The council decisions for seventeen other charging stations are being prepared.
“We had intended to be able to install piles within four to five months from the new agreement, and we have achieved that agreement”, Kennis. “Depending on the weather, the first piles will be installed at the beginning of February. The installation of the first fast charging stations is scheduled for September 2022.”
