Toulouse: the Jaurès metro Monop ‘to draw the curtain
Opened in 2007, the Mono’p de la galerie located at Jean Jaurès station closed on December 31. Different reasons are given by the group.
Opened in 2007 in the gallery of the Jean Jaurès metro station, the little Monop was very practical. At the time of the last evening shopping or during the lunch break, he offers something to buy a sandwich or a few quick courses before taking the metro. Days ago, this convenience store unfortunately closed the curtain, leaving a room desperately empty. Many customers still ignore it and try to go through the sliding doors, resolutely closed. Inside, the long row of counters lets here and there glimpse a few employees trying to tidy up what remains of this local store. “He was very helpful,” assures a loyal customer who will come every evening to buy something to make a quick dinner. I don’t have much time to do the lessons during the week and here I calmly wait for the weekend, she laments. It is now over ”.
A steady drop in attendance
“We have not had much explanation for this closure, assures a manager. maybe a question of rent but without certainty ”.
Monop ‘communication relates the situation: “The Mono’p store has suffered a drop in attendance especially in recent years, linked to the health crisis and various confinements but also to the work of the Ramblas Jean Jaurès”.
However, the group has actions to try to curb this reduction in clientele, but nothing has made it possible to increase the turnover necessary for the amortization of the royalty. “So we were forced to close the store on December 31,” continues the communication. Following the CSE (social and economic committee) in November 2021, management will meet the ten employees on permanent contracts in order to study their repositioning. A job offer in another Toulouse store was considered for all employees in order to maintain their jobs ”. In Toulouse, three other Monop’existant brands: Esquirol, Jeanne d’Arc and rue Matabiau.
