Asp city of Siena, the COVID-19 situation to date

Sugar Mizzy January 5, 2022

Since 1 January 2021, the start date of vaccinations for guests and operators of the Italian RSA, in the hospitality facilities managed by ASP Città di Siena (RSA for the elderly and for Alzheimer’s patients), there have been zero deaths from COVID- 19 between guests and operators.

2021 data – In 2021 there were outbreaks from Covid-19 in five RSAs, all managed safely with specific procedures.
69 guests tested positive, of which only 3 needed to be transferred to hospital, while the remaining 67 turned out to be almost all asymptomatic.

Over 15 thousand monitoring swabs regularly carried out to guests and operators under the supervision of the Regional Health Service. These are the important numbers that ASP Città di Siena delivers to the community (internal and external) for the year 2021.

Current situation – The ongoing outbreak in the D. Beccafumi nursing home has shown, starting from 29 December last, the presence of 19 positives out of 28 total guests of the structure, all with no or very few symptoms. As a result of the monitoring of the outbreak carried out today, Wednesday 5 January 2022, the number of positives has decreased to 18: it is hoped for a progressive exhaustion as all previous outbreaks have shown.

ASP City of Siena, which manages 10 hospitality facilities for a total of about 350 guests, constituting one of the largest in the region, is perfectly in line with the data reported by the important surveillance study of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, to which 845 residential structures have joined – of which 361 RSAs, about half from Tuscany. The study highlighted a progressive decline in COVID-19 cases and deaths among the guests of the facilities starting from January 2021 until almost zeroing in the year just ended.

The trend in the incidence of COVID-19 cases among health workers of the same residential structures is similar.

In this context, numbers and data in hand, ASP Città di Siena was among the first regional structures to reopen to visits by the guests’ families, first with the embrace rooms inaugurated in March 2021, and then with the total reopening which took place during of summer 2021.

In fact, during the summer months it was possible to organize family visits inside the residential structures and at the same time the outings of guests who thus had the opportunity both to go out and to return to the family.
of residential structures to family visits and guests’ exits to be able to return to the family and to be able to go out to the east

From summer 2021 ASP Città di Siena was also among the first public structures in Italy to safely manage visits to residential structures through a portal accessible from the institution’s institutional website (https://www.asp.siena.it /). which still allows you to book visits to any facility in total autonomy.

The same portal can also be used by citizens to book rapid anti-hygienic tampons and COVID-19 vaccines in the municipal pharmacies of Siena, also managed by ASP Città di Siena.
