Greece – Saudi Arabia / Riyadh Investment Expectation
What the Foreign Ministers of Greece and Saudi Arabia discussed yesterday in Athens
“Nikos Dendias was very happy for the visit made yesterday at the Foreign Ministry by his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saoud -” the visit of a friend was a great sign for a good year, “he said.
He even expressed his satisfaction “for the conduct of the first EU-Saudi Arabia dialogue on human rights, which took place in September 2021”, he expressed.
After all, the scepters of hypocrisy in this case are not held by Greece – which christens every potential enemy of its enemy – but the EU.
However, Dendias’s statement on the commonalities between Athens and Riyadh – the commitment “to the defense of the International Law of the Sea”, the “promotion of peace and stability in countries such as Iraq, Libya, Syria” and, above all . , respect for “the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of third countries” – was too … enthusiastic. It is as if no one knows where Yemen is falling – and how much Saudi Arabia is involved in this undeclared war.
But, we said. The aim is for Greece to secure allies against Turkey – and Saudi Arabia has offered, among other things, its support within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, where Turkey distorts the truth about the Muslim minority in Thrace and the Cyprus issue, as Dendias stressed. However, this support could also be taken as a contradiction to the Patriot group that Greece sent to Saudi Arabia to contribute to its safe havens.
Bin Farhan Al Saoud, for his part, signed his interest in strengthening defense, political, trade relations with Greece, while announcing the visit of the Crown Prince in 2022. It is recalled that the royal family of Saudi Arabia is from the world’s big investors – her proposal to set up an Economic Affairs Office in Athens is considered very promising. There may even be Saudi interest in investing in the developing region of Thrace, as the Foreign Minister understood.
Finally, Dendias did not fail to denounce the Turkish aggressive rhetoric, describing Ankara’s stance as an “epitome of irrationality”, and to ask young people to withdraw the casus belli.
