OVERVIEW: Repairs on Tolstoy and Brno Bridge, new terminal. What is going on in Jihlava this year? | Jihlava region From the region Jihlavská Drbna
At their last meeting, which took place in December 2021, the Jihlava representatives discussed the final form of the budget for 2022. In addition to the subsidy titles offered by the city or other expenses associated with the running of the office itself, it also contains a large number of investment projects – both new projects, as well as repairs of houses, sidewalks and roads.
“The budget in 2022 will work with almost one billion and a half. The budget deficit will reach 27 million, which is at least in the last three years and is also covered by a revolving loan; the city no longer has any classic loans. The draft budget also partly envisages an increase in the prices of energy, construction work and materials, and if the money prepared is not enough, it is possible to reach the Reserve and Development Fund. At the same time, we assume that the city will receive grant funds for some investment projects, which will reduce the city’s expenditures. In the case of a better price (compared to the budgeted price) of some of the investment projects that could be achieved within the framework of public procurement, it is possible to transfer the saved funds within the budget and use them elsewhere. “ said Jan Jaroš, head of the economic department of the municipality.
In Jihlava, the reconstruction of the town house number 21 on Masaryk Square began today, for which the city received a subsidy from the so-called Norwegian funds. Two-year repairs to this house in the city’s monument reserve will cost around 80 million crowns.
The biggest event for this year is, of course, the start of the construction of the Horáčka multifunctional arena and the demolition of the Horácká winter stadium. “So far, the total construction is based on a billion and a half, with the promised subsidy from the Vysočina Region in the amount of 500 million crowns, and we will also apply for support from the National Sports Agency, which could contribute up to 300 million crowns. We also thank the public for their contributions to the transparent account, where there is still an opportunity to contribute, donors will be forever connected with the construction of the hall, “ said Deputy Mayor Petr Ryška, adding that all information about the support of the hall can be found on this web.
Construction and reconstruction of sidewalks, roads and stops
One of the largest construction and transport events is the so-called Increase of Safety in Jihlava. In 2022, it will move to the fourth stage, which will cost around 46 million crowns, including VAT. This year, the following construction projects of the city of Jihlava will be part of the support project:
- reconstruction of sidewalks, roads and sewers in Kosovská street,
- reconstruction of public transport stops on 5 May, including connection to existing sidewalks and implementation of a new pedestrian crossing with lighting, reconstruction of the water supply system,
- reconstruction of sidewalks and roads in Pod Příkopem Street, including construction of a new pedestrian crossing and public lighting, reconstruction of the water supply system,
- construction of a new sidewalk and public lighting in Smrčenská Street, including reconstruction of the existing Smrčenská public transport stops, reconstruction of the water supply system,
- construction of a new sidewalk and public lighting in Znojemská Street,
- reconstruction of existing or construction of new sidewalks in the Brtnické předměstí locality, modification of the shape of the intersection of U Dlouhé stěny and Polní streets,

Plans at the train station
As part of the overall reconstruction and modernization of the interchange for passenger rail and urban public transport, the public space in front of the main train station building will be modified and the adjacent park will be revitalized at the same time. “The aim of the project is to support sustainable forms of transport, facilitate transfers and improve the comfort of public transport users. The entire area will also be barrier-free, supplemented by missing access walkways and pedestrian crossings, which, together with the chosen transport solutions, will increase the safety of all its users. ” explains Aneta Hrdličková from the Jihlava Department of External Relations.
The event will take place in connection with the reconstruction of the station building, which is being prepared by the Railway Administration, and in parallel with the repair of traction overhead contact line poles and the modification of the passenger shelter and facilities for public transport drivers provided by the Jihlava Transport Company. This is one of the first public transport stops, which served here between 1909 and 1948 for the tram and subsequently for trolleybus transport.
Repairs of the old “Brňák”
The old Brno Bridge is 46 meters long and 8.7 meters high, was built in 1927 and stands on the site of a former state road connecting Germany with Hungary. The repair of the bridge is planned for this year and should cost around 40 million. “Upon completion, the existing one-way traffic regime (which was restored here in 2003) should remain on the bridge, with the pedestrian walkway widening. ” adds Hrdličková.
Housing development improvements
This year, people who live in Bří Čapků, Ke Skalce and Seifertova streets will also improve. The reconstruction will cover sidewalks, roads and water management infrastructure, in addition, there will be new public lighting and traction lines for possible future service of this site by public transport. “The reconstruction of Bří Čapků Street was already being prepared in 2019, but due to the subsequent situation within the pandemic, no construction company was found that would be interested in such a contract. It was therefore postponed and planned for this year, along with the repair of the surrounding streets, ” Hrdličková reveals other plans for this year.
Reconstruction of the house with the address Masarykovo náměstí 21
Jihlava received a prestigious grant from the European Economic Area for the reconstruction of this house, specifically the Culture program, worth almost 39 million crowns. The total cost is estimated at 80 million and will be one of the largest investments planned for this year. The house will become a center of culture, education and tourism and its operator will be a contributory organization of the city of Jihlava Gate. The Kuba & Pařízek tea house will return here, which will also operate in spare rooms in Brněnská Street during the reconstruction of the building.
