Noise wants to attract congresses and companies
If Hanover and the region want to remain an important business location, the image of Hanover urgently needs to be revamped. Regional President Steffen Krach (SPD) calls for this. Because it has to be a question of locating more companies in the Hanover region. But the worse the image, the less willing companies are to come here, said Krach.
Braunschweig has more money available
Other cities had more money available for image advertising, said Krach, using Braunschweig as an example. Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH (HMTG) must also be provided with more money by the region in order to be able to advertise Hannover better, he emphasized. “We have to stick to the call of Hanover,” said Krach.
As reported, Hanover did poorly in a nationwide survey on the attractiveness of the state capitals. The Lower Saxony metropolis only occupies the penultimate place. The Germans only consider Saarbrücken to be even more unattractive than Hanover. “I’m really annoyed that Hanover only ended up on the penultimate place,” said Krach. “We cannot be satisfied with that,” he emphasized.
Is Hanover becoming unattractive for companies?
Hanover is a “great trade fair location”, said Krach, even if there are currently no major trade fairs in demand due to the corona pandemic. But congresses, especially science congresses, are still completely underestimated in Hanover, said Krach. The founding of a congress bureau had been decided years ago, and it must now finally start work. If the corona pandemic is over, it will be about how, for example, more congresses can be brought to Hanover. In addition, Hanover could advertise its role model function more strongly, for example when it comes to equipping it with e-buses.
Shortly before Christmas, the state capital’s council discussed the subject. The Greens and the SPD had called for serenity in the debate and referred to Hanover’s awards: Unesco City of Music, Capital of Biodiversity. Hanover shouldn’t be talked badly, as the CDU does, said SPD parliamentary group leader Lars Kelich, for example. From the point of view of CDU parliamentary group leader Felix Semper, on the other hand, the bad image is a danger because it makes Hanover unattractive for companies.
This is the study: On behalf of the Drei-Quellen-Mediengruppe, which belongs to the employers’ association Niedersachsenmetall, Allensbach interviewed 1,553 people nationwide. Only 9 percent state that Hanover is so attractive that a visit is worthwhile. Only the Saarland state capital, Saarbrücken, is 7 percent behind Hanover. The Germans – unsurprisingly – see the state capitals of Hamburg, Berlin and Munich as particularly attractive. North German cities such as Kiel and Bremen land in the middle of the field. But even the Lower Saxony itself can evidently not gain much from Hanover. Just everyone Völlig thinks that Hanover should be a role model that other cities should follow. Shopping opportunities and cultural offers are positive things about Hanover.
