The deceased Attila Dobos is a composer and singer. The artist, who became known at the Dance Song Festivals in Budapest in the sixties, died at home at the age of 80, on the night of Monday, confirmed the news to MTI’s brother, Zsuzsanna Dobos.
Attila Dobos was born in 1941. Already at the first Dance Song Festival in 1966, one of his songs, So Many People Live in the Earth, was awarded, which was a success in the performance of János Koós. From then on, he was one of the stars of the competition every year as a performer and composer.
He wrote a hit for György Hoffer (Neither with you nor without you), László Aradszky (God thinks sweet Piroskám; At that first awkward kiss; The heart is still pulling here and there), Sarolta Zalatnay (Hello old friends), Zsuzsi Mary (Cherry seller girl) song; Ugly Boy; Red Champagne; Trumpet; You’re the Ideal One), Bell Bell To Zsuzsa Koncz (Now let’s dance a tango once).
In my own performance I became known for the Stones on the Waterfront, the Roses Scent, Krisztina, I Could Scream with Happiness or the Apartment on the Floor. Attila Dobos’s compilation album entitled Dance Songs was released in 1968, and he sings these six songs himself. He often took the stage with his wife, Mary Zsuzsi, with whom they were married in 1965 and had been together for five years.
When he relocated abroad, radio stations stopped broadcasting his songs, the record was banned, and recalled from stores for destruction. He later returned to Hungary, and in 1985 he released his second album, Attila Dobos’s New Songs. In 1991, he published his opera The Tragedy of Man. In 2020, Iván Szenes received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
He had three children from his fourth wife.
