The ODS and People’s Party survived their nationwide Waterloo in 2010 and 2013 only thanks to people from below. While the YES movement is the same as a single person, for traditional parties, success depends mainly on popular municipal and regional representatives. Republican people such as Opava expressor Zbyněk Stanjura and Pilsen Martin Baxa in the ODS or former mayor of Kolín Vít Rakušan grow out of them.
YES at risk
Next year, the YES movement’s candidates will be the main players. Tomáš Macura ends up in Ostrava and there is no name by far that would be a tutovka. However, the Pirates are in a similar situation. The mayor of Prague, Zdeněk Hřib, won the nomination for the defense of the head of the capital just a fous, and few would bet that he would succeed. ODS politicians, who wanted to confirm the parliamentary victory with this trump card, are preparing for the traditional right-wing stronghold. The head of its Prague organization and MP Marek Benda would like to see a common candidate TOGETHER (ODS, TOP 09, KDU-ČSL). There is talk of both himself and Zdeněk Zajíček, but also his non-partisan, economist Mojmír Hampl.
ANALYSIS: Zeman’s call for courage: Facing backward progress
Municipal elections will be crucial for the CSSD. If she fails to stir up supporters at the local level, her chances of returning to the House are dramatically reduced. The Five Coalition also has great ambitions to win the Senate elections and defend the presidency. This should be done to Miloš Vystrčil, unless the ODS sends him to fight for the Castle. It is this most prestigious contribution in the state that will dominate the atmosphere of 2022.
Presidential secret
Miloš Zeman is saying goodbye and in the current constellation he will no longer have a major influence on everyday politics. However, he can pull a lot of his supporters to the side of the person he recommends or, conversely, defeats. The chosen favorite may not be the current favorite Andrej Babiš, but the ending CNB Governor Jiří Rusnok or the trade union boss Josef Středula. On the other hand, Miroslav Kalousek, Pavel Fischer or Miloš Vystrčil would undoubtedly receive a poisonous conviction.
