The stringent nationwide restrictive measures have been in place for three weeks, starting November 22. On 12 December, the authorities gave permission to reopen all activities, except catering, cultural events with the participation of over 1,000 people and with assigned seats. At the same time, restaurants close no later than 11.00 pm The regional authorities have been given the right to independently tighten or relax the restrictive measures agreed at the federal level. Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig immediately announced that Vienna will step out of the lockdown step by step. Thus, on December 12 only the shops, tertiary activities, the cultural sector and the Christmas markets, restaurants and hotels opened only a week later, on December 20. Only vaccinated and cured people can visit all public places and the obligation to wear the FFP2 mask remains in force. For the unvaccinated, however, the lockdown continues, but for Christmas and New Year they will be able to leave the house for meetings with a small circle of people.
