The play in the streets of Prague will show children the places connected with Václav Havel and totalitarianism
Organizers of the initiative Bez komunistů.cz they also want to commemorate the anniversary of Havel’s death, which will be ten years on December 18. Representatives of the initiative presented the game in Prague today.
Petr Marek told ČTK on the initiative that the game is part of a long-term project In the Footsteps of a Totalitarian Past, which shows young people the places where modern history was written. The organizers have prepared various tasks for the participants of the game. They will evaluate them at the finish line, which will again be on Mariánské náměstí. “Prizes will be prepared for the best, but everyone will take something,” Marek said, adding that the game itself would take about half an hour for the children.
Marek pointed out that one of the sites is, for example, at the mouth of Pařížská Street, from where the Stalin monument on Letná was seen, completed in 1955 and demolished in 1962. , it is a strong novelty for them. The story with Stalin’s sculptural group is usually completely new to them as well. And they are very interested in them, “Marek described.
There are several places connected with the playwright and former President Havel, where the participants of Saturday’s event will pass. “The post will be needed on the site of the former St. Anne’s Church, which was a ruin during the communist regime. The boys there played in the 70’s and 80’s that they were Stínadla known from Jaroslav Foglar’s books about Fast Arrows. I was one of them, we were really convinced that they were Stínadla and that church is the Church of St. James, where the mysterious Vont chose their Great Vont, “he said. “Václav Havel then made sure that the church building was saved. A cultural center called the Prague Crossroads was established there, and today the Dagmar and Václav Havel Foundation takes care of it, “he added.
On the other side of the church is Anenské náměstí, where the Na Zábradlí Theater is located. “Václav Havel also worked there in the 1960s and presented his plays. So in places directly connected with his life, at different times, we will recall his personality and his legacy, “added Marek.
The Bez komunistů.cz platform regularly organizes events commemorating personalities who have resisted the communist regime and historical anniversaries. In addition to the educational project Footprints of the Totalitarian Past, for example, there are also campaigns with a head raised dedicated to the memory of Milady Horáková and other victims of communist totalitarianism.
