Prague will significantly increase the accommodation fee
To increase the accommodation fee to 50 crowns from this year, the amendment to the law from 2019 will increase this year. He added that the city’s intention to use the funds obtained by increasing the fee to support and develop tourism in the metropolis.
The municipality’s management wants to invest half of the money raised in the development of tourism, for example through campaigns or support for large events and fairs.
The proposal was criticized by the head of the ANO opposition movement club, Ondřej Prokop, according to whom the time was not right for him due to the coronavirus epidemic and the crisis in the tourism industry.
Vyhnánek previously said that in the period before the coronavirus pandemic, the city collected about 300 million crowns a year from hotel guests. Thus, in the case of a return to the pre-crisis state, it would mean an increase of over half a billion crowns a year. The city receives fees from hotels, those from guesthouses and camps go to the budgets of the city districts.
At the time of the ongoing pandemic, some Increased Hoteliers were criticized by CTK. According to them, the industry has not yet managed to recover from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, and the move will place an additional burden on it. In addition, the increase should have been announced well in advance so that hotel operators can take it into account in the contracts, they warned.
