Court decides: Yok Yok City kiosk in Frankfurt remains unique | hessenschau.de
Only the “Yok Yok City-Kiosk” in Frankfurt should be that hot, decided the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court. The lawsuit was preceded by a dispute between two kiosk owners about nothing less than cult status.
The “Yok Yok City-Kiosk” is a well-known hotspot and a real institution in the Frankfurt train station district. For over 16 years the owner Nazim Alemdar has been offering drinks from all over the world, an open ear and a home for his customers.
The whole of Frankfurt comes together in his small pump room on Münchener Straße, whether before the party or for a nightcap afterwards. Bankers, students, regulars from the neighborhood or tourists from all over the world – everyone gets their favorite drink here.
Higher regional court confirms: the real Yok Yok is in Frankfurt
But suddenly the Frankfurt cult store was in danger of its uniqueness. A kiosk called “Yok Yok” was opened in Weil am Rhein (Baden-Württemberg). Nazim Alemdar might want to allow this copy. After all, the “Yok Yok” has always been more – more passion, more work and a place where customers immediately belong to the family as soon as they enter the store. The “Yok Yok” has long since established itself nationwide as a brand with recognition value.
After an injunction had been ignored by the imitators, Alemdar decided to file a lawsuit with the Frankfurt Regional Court. Alemdar has now also got the right at the Higher Regional Court, like the first Picture newspaper and die FAZ reported. Only he is allowed to use the name “Yok Yok” for his shops – throughout Germany.
“Yok Yok” has emotional meaning
It quickly becomes clear to Alemdar how important the name “Yok Yok” is. With a laugh, he explains that “Yok” means “does not exist” in Turkish in his mother tongue. If you also say “Yok Yok”, it means: “Doesn’t exist, doesn’t exist.”
Alemdar kept getting offers to sell the name. But I always refused. “I would never do that! ‘Yok Yok’ is like a child to me, and you don’t sell your child either. If someone calls me, I answer the call with Mr. Yok Yok, even if that’s not my real name. “
Trip around the world with every store visit
“Doesn’t exist, doesn’t exist” is taken seriously here. In addition to spicy tomato brandy from Mexico, beer from all corners of Hesse and South America and organic apple wine, you can also buy a car exhaust repair kit.
The “Yok Yok” celebrates its international atmosphere. Postcards and stickers from all over the world hang on the walls – gifts from his customers. Alemdar tells how regular international customers from over 70 countries come to him again and again with gifts from their home countries during trade fairs.
Charity is part of the kiosk philosophy
The decision of the Higher Regional Court feels for Alemdar and like a confirmation of his work. For him, it is not about getting rich – he has already gone broke twice in the course of his life. Instead, it is important to him to give something back to society through his shop.
He collects donations for football clubs, international projects in Turkey and Ghana and makes his shop available for art exhibitions. Alemdar also works in front of one’s own front door: Whether it’s helping the homeless or breaking the fast of Muslim fellow citizens together – the social center in the station district is and remains the now officially original “Yok Yok City-Kiosk”.
