Malostranské náměstí is one of the most visited places in Prague, but its current state is unhappy. Therefore, in 2014, the Institute of Planning and Urban Development of the capital m of Prague (IPR) in cooperation with the City of Prague m of Prague urban-architectural competition to address this square. The winning design by architects Martin Hájek, Václav Hájek and Petr Horský is now nearing completion.
“Construction work will begin in the spring of next year, at the top of the square, between the Liechtenstein Palace and the Church of St. Nicholas. A rescue archaeological survey will also be carried out at the excavation sites. Thanks to the reconstruction, the entire square will be vacated, which will thus approach its original meaning and purpose, ie the place to meet, “says Petr Hlaváček, First Deputy Mayor for Territorial Development.
The reconstructed square will offer Praguers and tourists both a quiet sitting and a space for markets and other cultural and social activities.
“This project is the result of several years of efforts by IPR, the city and local initiatives to cultivate the neglected Malostranské náměstí. And I am very glad that now, seven years after the architectural competition, we are finally approaching the start of the reconstruction. At the same time, I hope that similar projects will be implemented more quickly in the future;
