Toulouse: the study and heritage library reopens in its entirety
This Tuesday, December 14, the Study and Heritage Library, rue de Périgord in Toulouse, reopens its spaces entirely. It had been completely closed, for two weeks in October 2021, then partially reopened, due to cracks on its main dome.
The Study and Heritage library, one of the most popular with students and researchers in Toulouse for the richness of its documentary collection and its workspaces, reopens in its entirety on Tuesday, December 14.
The library was closed completely for a fortnight, at the beginning of October 2021, then partially reopened on October 19, at the usual times from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Its large dome was crumbling, under the effect of small cracks, and needed to be secured.
After various phases of investigation and diagnosis with the regional conservation of historic monuments and a heritage architect, a non-obscuring safety net was made to measure and placed under the dome, indicated by the Toulouse town hall.
Waterproofing work will be carried out on the dome where weaknesses have been triggered at the level of certain blue stained glass cabochons. Further expertise is underway by the National Historical Monuments Research Laboratory.
The Study and Heritage Library, owned by the town hall of Toulouse and designed by the architect Jean Montariol in the 1930s, has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1994.
