It will be possible to contactlessly pay the fare directly in the car on Prague’s public transport buses next year. The transport company (DPP) should select a company to deliver the terminals to the buses by the end of the year. The service already works in trams and the company has also introduced it in vending machines in the metro.
“By the end of this year, we should know the winner, and if there are no objections, we will be able to conclude a contract with him. The supplier then has 10 months to supply contactless terminals, install them on all DPP buses and put them into operation. during the fourth quarter of next year, all our buses will be without contact terminals to buy tickets, “ said the head of the DPP communication department Daniel Sabik.
According to the tender documentation published on the Tendr arena server, the contract with the supplier will be concluded for six years and will supply 1,200 terminals. In addition to delivery and commissioning, the company responsible for operating and servicing the equipment will be selected and provide service cards or chips.
“Payment only in cash.” An inscription that probably surprised each of us at the box office. Many shops, mostly smaller ones, still do not offer the option of paying by card. As an argument, sellers often state the amount of fees for the operation of the payment terminal ….
Since the end of April 2019, the terminals have been operating in trams. The machines are at the middle cars, 14T trams run. The device works by having the passenger board, select a ticket and attach a card to the device. A ticket containing validity data will be issued and will no longer be marked. DPP has signed a four-year contract with the Banking Information Technology company, which installed the devices in trams. The company belonging to ČSOB will pay 1.99 percent of the ticket price.
Passengers can pay by card in public transport, for example in Ostrava, as well as people paying in Karlovy Vary or Liberec and other cities.
