Open but unfinished. The Prague-Zahradní Město railway station remains in trial operation
The railway administration delays the effects of the pandemic and the lack of materials.
The Railway Administration will not be able to complete the already opened Prague-Zahradní Město railway station this year and will continue to be in trial operation. The new station will not be fully completed until next spring. The promised December date will not be met.
“Finishing work is currently continuing, during the spring for landscaping, grassing and other work,Nela Friebová, a spokeswoman for the Railway Administration, described the current situation. She also adds that the complications associated with the current pandemic are responsible for the delay.
For example, the delivery of components to parts of the station’s security equipment was delayed. “Like the whole company, the pandemic was affected by our contractors, who were struggling with a shortage of staff. Supplier technologies have also experienced a shortage of material. For example, it was chips to the security device,“Says Frieb.
The station was opened with the participation of Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and Minister of Transport Karel Havlíček before the parliamentary elections at the end of September this year. However, the station was not completely finished during the ceremony. In operation, the elevators, on the one hand, lacked concretions of the entrances to the escalators and even the escalators themselves were not functional.
The Prague-Zahradní Město transport terminal with a train / public transport system is to be part of the newly built four-track corridor between Vršovice and Hostivaří. The railway administration compares construction with its significance to the metro. Reconstruction of the entire line section cost almost 5.3 billion crowns.
