Russian Foreign Ministry says Russia plays a special role in the development of maritime cooperation in the Arctic – Politics
MOSCOW, December 2. / TASS /. Russia plays a special role in the development of cooperation related to the use of the sea in the Arctic region. This was announced on Thursday by the Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the senior person of the Arctic Council from Russia Nikolai Korchunov.

As noted by Korchunov, the Russian chairmanship has now appointed Nikolai Shabalin, head of the MSU Marine Research Center, as a Special Representative for Maritime Activity in the Arctic Region, who will support the Arctic’s efforts for future sustainable development and preservation of the natural environment in the Arctic seas. “The Special Representative will use multilateral cooperation in the Arctic routes, and will also participate in the transportation of goods through the Arctic routes,” he added.
“In addition, Shabalin will work to strengthen the interaction of organizations and countries that are members of the Arctic Council in achieving development goals,” – the index Korchunov.
