MOSCOW, November 30. / TASS /. The slow and cautious actions of UNESCO in Syria to restore cultural monuments are disappointing in Russia. Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to UNESCO Alexander Kuznetsov spoke about this at a briefing on Tuesday.
“With regard to Syria, what I have to say frankly is that this means that one of the tasks that shows that one other problem, one that is very slow, is turning one event, another, like Palmyra, Aleppo and other problems.” , – he said.
Kuznetsov also added that the Russian side attaches great importance to this, there is a memorandum of UNESCO cooperation between the Hermitage on the protection and restoration of cultural property in the conflict, in particular in the Middle East.
“We are ready to use this mechanism to create a three-dimensional model of Palmyra,” says Kuznetsov.
At the same time, according to the Permanent Representative, with regard to Iraq, “UNESCO has launched a fairly large-scale project called” Revival of the Spirit of Mosul. Revival of the urban environment and cultural life in general, so that UNESCO has sufficient activity here, “he said.
