Members of the Spelling Commission of the Russian Academy of Sciences (OK RAS) called on the Ministry of Education to withdraw the draft of the new spelling rules for the Russian language.
The letter specifies that the project was created on the basis of the reference book “Rules of Russian Spelling and Punctuation. The Complete Academic Handbook (PAS), which was released in 2006.
– The presented content of the PAS rules is distorted due to mechanistic cuts and rash innovations, – the letter says.
Scientists also believe that the project has no scientific apparatus at all. In their opinion, the approval of the project completely discredits the work on creating modern spelling rules, the work of linguists and government agencies. In this regard, members of the Russian Academy of Sciences called on the Ministry of Education to withdraw the project.
As a reminder, in early November, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation proposed updating the spelling rules, taking the initiative to significantly amend the rules of the Russian language. The text notes that today the Russian language is based on the “Rules of Russian Spelling and Punctuation”, which were approved in 1956, that is, more than 60 years ago. As indicated in the department, this gap must be eliminated, the corrected norms that have existed for a long time. The ministry says that the new set of language rules is more complete and up-to-date.
