Russian World Foundation office opened in Rasht, Iran – Politics
TEHRAN, November 24. / TASS /. The office of the Russkiy Mir Foundation opened on Wednesday at Gilan University in the city of Rasht in northern Iran. The representative of Rossotrudnichestvo in Iran, Dmitry Kalenichenko, told about this in an interview with TASS.
The ceremony was also attended by the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Rasht, Andrey Vadov.
“Representatives of the Gilan University announced that they intend to cooperate with the Russkiy Mir on the issue of training students,” Kalenichenko said. He recalled that “this year Rossotrudnichestvo unilaterally made a decision to increase the number of quotas for Iranian students by more than three times.” “We hope that based on the results of the work carried out, we will be able to further increase the number of [бюджетных] places for Iranians in Russian universities, “he added.

The Russkiy Mir Foundation was established by the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 21, 2007. The purpose of the organization is to popularize the Russian language, support programs for its study in Russia and abroad. The Foundation is developing a network of international Russian centers and offices of the “Russian World”, on the basis of which Russian language courses, clubs for lovers of Russian literature and culture are organized, festivals, Olympiads and quizzes for the best knowledge of Russian history and other events are held. At the beginning of 2020, 116 Russian centers were operating abroad in 52 countries of the world and 134 offices of the “Russian World” in 59 states.
