Rain and leaves on the rails cause metro problems in Amsterdam
Between October 24 and November 18, there were many emergency brakes on the metros. Most likely for this: the subway wheels pen due to wet weather and leaves on the rails. Other common problems are the interaction between the vehicles and the traffic control system and outdated travel information on the platform displays.
The introduction of the CBTC traffic control system has already led to (substantial) disruptions on several occasions; Around 2 p.m. on 18 November only the North/South line was still running, at the end of September no metros were running for an hour and in April and May the entire metro network was shut down for several hours.
Additional staff
To solve the problems in the future, the help of extra staff is being looked at and the municipality is looking at updating the software. In the communication period, extra attention is also paid to the directions of travelers.
In the event of long-term disruptions, GVB will use shuttle buses between Amsterdam Central and North, as passengers on that route have no alternative. Traveling at destinations NS and GVB stations may also continue by train.
The term expects that the duration of the term can be increased to a maximum of 45 minutes.
