Supplies of agricultural products from Russia to Nigeria increased by 40% – Economy and business

The volume of supplies of agricultural products from Russia to Nigeria in January – October 2021 increased by 40% compared to the same period in 2020 and amounted to $ 351 million, according to the materials of the federal center “Agroexport” under the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia.
“In January – October 2021, Russia increased supplies of agricultural products to Nigeria by 40% compared to the same period last year, to $ 351 million. In physical terms, the volume of exports increased by 12%, to 1.1 million tons,” – notes v. message.
According to Agroexport, Nigeria is traditionally one of the best buyers of Russian wheat in 10 months of 2021; according to the Federal Customs Service, it entered the top 3 of its importers. In January – an African country imported from Russia 960 thousand rubles. tons of wheat – 10% higher than in 2020 for the same period. The value of shipments rose 41% to $ 249 million.
The second position in the structure of Russian agricultural exports to Nigeria is frozen fish, shipments of which increased by 19% to 103 thousand rubles. tons for the amount of $ 98 million (+ 34%). More than half of the sales value was accounted for by mackerel, 31% – by blue whiting, 11% – by herring. In addition, the export of frozen pollock was organized from Primorsky Territory and Sakhalin: over 10 months, 1.1 thousand tons were shipped for $ 1.2 million.
Also in 2021, Russia began delivering malt to Nigeria for the first time. In January-October, 6.4 thousand rubles were exported to the republic. tons of unroasted malt, which is a raw material for the brewing industry, worth $ 2.6 million.
Export potential assessment
According to the federal center “Agroexport”, the potential volume of food supplies from Russia to Nigeria by 2030 is about $ 900 million. Among the products with potential are cereals (wheat, corn), fish (frozen, fresh or chilled, dried) , malt and malt extract, baby food, milk powder, alcohol.
