The acceleration of the Covid-19 epidemic is no longer in doubt. The virus is circulating more and more. Nord and Pas-de-Calais are no exception. In the region, which are the most affected areas ? We take stock of the latest data *.
The epidemic is accelerating in the Nord – Pas-de-Calais
In recent weeks, the incidence rate continues to grow faster and faster. So in the North on account now 174 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, as of November 17, 2021, compared to 80 per 100,000 two weeks ago.
In Pas-de-Calais, the acceleration is also significant. 45 cases per 100,000 inhabitants at the beginning of November, at 125 two weeks later.

are the most significant cities?
The circulation of the virus is therefore accelerating, but not equally over the territory. In the North, we can see that many municipalities on the Belgian border, from Condé-sur-l’Escaut to Leers, show high incidence rates, between 250 and 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The surge in cases in Belgium, where new measures have been taken, may be an explanation for this phenomenon.
The Lille metropolis as for it remains more affected than the rest of the department. The incidence rate is 195, while it was “only” from 93 at the beginning of November.
In Pas-de-Calais, the virus is spreading further in large cities, around Arras and Lens, but also quite lively in Montreuillois.

Increased pressure on hospitals in the North
This epidemic rebound now impacts hospital activity, especially in the North. The number of patients admitted for Covid is increasing: they were 296 to November 17 (235 November 3).
In Pas-de-Calais, on the other hand, hospital activity is stable, around 115 patients hospitalized for Covid in recent weeks.

Fr intensive care, stability still in Pas-de-Calais, around ten patients. But in the North, here too the situation is deteriorating: from 58 patients on November 3, we 67 admitted to intensive care two weeks later.

Men still represent the majority of patients hospitalized for Covid. While young people are still the populations where the virus circulates the most, it is mainly seniors who suffer the most serious forms and are hospitalized.
Faced with this degradation, the government is currently on the booster dose of the vaccine. For the time being, new more restrictive measures are not on the agenda, even if no leads are excluded. This Sunday morning on Europe 1, Gabriel Attal, spokesperson for the government, warned about a “Fifth wave” which “starts in a dazzling way”.
