Combination of Austrian cuisine and a Viennese coffee house atmosphere
«Der Wilde Kaiser» WILL BE THE local future, the concept envisages a combination of Austrian cuisine and a Viennese coffee house atmosphere; The fact that the Austrian Honorary Consulate General is located nearby, also on Mühlegasse, is pure coincidence.
Christian Krahnstöver most recently worked as Managing Director at Hotel Hirschen in Obermeilen and as Deputy Hotel and Resident Manager and F&B Manager at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Zurich, Nicole Krahnstöver held various positions at the Dolder Grand .
The two of them have been running a temporary pop-up restaurant in Zumikon since May of this year, where they are successfully testing the “Der Wilde Kaiser” concept.
Open from eight in the morning
On the menu you will find classics of Austrian cuisine such as Wiener Schnitzel, Backhendl and Fogosch (pikeperch), but also, for vegetarians, spinach Laberl or Wutzinudeln with pumpkin lettuce.
The meat for the schnitzel comes from an organic farm in Meilen, and the rest of the products are usually also produced in the region. When it comes to drinks, however, the concept is based on wine and beer from Austria.
“Der Wilde Kaiser” will be open from Tuesday to Saturday from 8 a.m. Outside of meal times, Christian and Nicole Krahnstöver cultivate the Viennese coffee house culture, including the corresponding selection of patisseries. The opening of the pub is planned for March 2022, at the moment it is being refreshed.
