On Saturday, 9,161 covid cases occurred in the Czech Republic, 3,400 more than a week ago

Prague – On Saturday, laboratories in the Czech Republic detected 9,161 cases of covid-19, which is about 3,400 more than a week earlier. It is also the third worst weekend result since the start of the coronavirus epidemic in the country. This was the result of today’s data published on the website of the Ministry of Health. There are 3740 coronavirus-related hospitals, which is about 150 less than at the end of the working week. There are about a thousand more of them in the week-on-week comparison.
Per 100,000 inhabitants, 693 new cases of coronavirus infection have been detected in the country in the last seven days. The previous day, this incidence number was 32 lower.
This week, the limit of 10,000 new coronavirus infections per day was exceeded four times. The highest increase was on Tuesday, when 14,557 cases were added to the statistics. Only about 330 fewer were on Friday. Saturday’s 9,161 cases detected were included in the statistics of the third worst weekend issue since last March, when the first covid cases were detected in the Czech Republic. The highest number of infections was reported on a free day last October 24, when laboratories confirmed 12,473 cases. This was followed by Saturday, October 31, 2020 with 11,428 cases.
Since the outbreak, 1.89 million people have been shown to be infected with the new type of coronavirus. 31,481 of them died. Since the beginning of the week, 321 people with a proven covid have died, an average of about 54 a day. The daily maximum was Wednesday’s 68 deaths. So far, there are 27 deaths on Saturday. However, this information usually changes during later updates.
The worst epidemic situation is now in northern Moravia and Silesia. In the Olomouc Region, there have been 1,062 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last week. There are over 900 in the South Moravian Region and over 800 in the Moravian-Silesian and Zlín Regions. On the contrary, the northwest of Bohemia is relatively best. Specifically, in the Karlovy Vary region, the incidence number is 240.
According to interim data, laboratories in the Czech Republic tested 72,000 samples for the presence of the new coronavirus on Saturday, similar to a week ago. In the preventive tests, 5.6 percent of samples were positive, a week earlier it was 3.6 percent. In the case of an epidemiological indication, where people are tested, for example due to possible contact with the infected, the proportion of positives rose by 5.8 percentage points to 15.6 percent. In the diagnostic indication, when people showing symptoms are tested, the proportion of positive increases from 27.7 to 39.7 percent.
Since the start of vaccination at the end of last December, 12.77 million doses of vaccination against the new coronavirus have been administered in the Czech Republic. Among the 10.7 million inhabitants of the Czech Republic, 6.2 million people have completed vaccinations. On Saturday, medics gave about 12,000 injections of the vaccine, about half of which were given a booster dose. Compared to last Saturday, there were 2,200 fewer vaccinated doses.
