Greater Lyon. 146,000 euros for radioactivity detectors, this purchase that does not pass

Detectors of discord. The Métropole de Lyon has announced that it has purchased two radioactivity detectors from Criirad (Commission for independent research and information on radioactivity), association based in Valence and created in 1986 following the Chernobyl accident.
Above all, this commission was created by a certain Michèle Rivasi, MEP EELV and who has known anti-nuclear positions.
The purpose of these detectors: to monitor radioactivity in the Bugey and south of the Metropolis.
146,000 euros were spent on these two detectors. And this expenditure, validated behind closed doors on October 18, 2021 in a standing committee, does not pass.
For two main reasons: the “cronyism” which could have given rise to this purchase, and the fact that an organization already existed for nuclear monitoring: the Institute for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN).
The Metropolis is a hit
According to our colleagues from Progress, the State was not consulted before this grant. On social networks, the Metropolis is being knocked out. Between scientists and the opposition, tactics are multiplying:
“As if the state had not already implemented such a device…. Why not buy a telescope to verify the arrival of the dangerous comet? “

“So 150,000 euros given to an anti-nuclear militant association to have data that already exist. Strange subsidy… ”

“Criirad, co-founded by Rivasi, is recovering 150,000 euros to install radioactivity level detectors in Lyon Métropole (EELV) when the state has already installed them. The murderous policy of this nepotism. “

“150 k € to finance the installation of radioactivity detectors which will be managed by an association that tells anything about radioactivity in France (see https://twitter.com/nofake_science/status/1152179755334156290?t=rBm- WkKeUUH6LghlLsdT3Q & s = 19…) A fine example of bad public spending @brunobernard_fr! “

“As much as I understand the interest of a citizen second opinion in the event of an incident, as well as a redundant (and less robust) surveillance network of the State does not make sense. Less robust: because if you go to the CRIIRAD site, several sensors do not communicate (breakdowns) ”
