The Russian authorities are thinking about the possibility of QR codes for passengers and trains. This is reported on Tuesday, November 9 RBK citing two federal officials and transportation industry sources familiar with the discussion.
So, according to one of the sources in the relevant department, they are currently studying the technical possibility of launching a system of QR codes in transport. As the interlocutor of the publication noted, such a decision can be made if the situation with the spread of coronavirus in the country is bad.
According to one of RBC’s sources in the transport industry, while the authorities are collecting proposals from federal departments, the State Duma and the Federation Council. It is planned to complete it by November 15, after which concrete measures are possible. In turn, the source of the publication in Russian Railways confirmed the very fact of such a discussion in government circles, however, it is allowed that there is no final decision on this issue yet.
As explained by another source, according to one of the scenarios being discussed now, QR codes can begin to be entered from air transport after the January holidays of 2022. According to him, the choice of aircraft as a start for launching the system is due to the fact that there it will be easier to achieve it. “Many long-distance trains have scheduled stops along the way, sometimes in a matter of minutes, during which it is difficult to quickly check the availability of QR codes and implement this function only when buying a ticket,” said the interlocutor of RBC.
At the same time, the Ministry did not comment on such information and advised the publication to contact the Ministry of Transport with a request. In turn, representatives of the Ministry of Transport and the Federal Air Transport Agency also declined to comment.
Earlier on November 9, the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, said that the Kremlin was not discussing the possibility of introducing QR codes on air and rail transport. According to him, decisions on the introduction of additional restrictions on the use of planes and trains should be made by the government headquarters.
