The first drifter of Russia, Alexander Krupin, told how in the early 2000s, when sports drift was just beginning to gain popularity, he splashed out adrenaline while driving, driving around the central district of Vladivostok, and freaked out with friends and friends. He described the first races of Russian drifters in the special project “Russian Fast and Furious”.
According to him, when drifting in Russia took shape as a separate movement, he and his friends “were sometimes not weak.” Krupin said that they drove at night in the Central District of Vladivostok and released adrenaline at the karting track.
“I accelerated, stood and passed the appendix sideways on the Zmeinka, just like then, years later, it happened in drift competitions. Initially, I did not use the handbrake, and the eversion of the front wheels on the car was standard, ”Krupin recalls.
However, the racers stopped arranging races for safety reasons and for the sake of preserving the image.
Drift is a technique of cornering a car using a skid at the highest possible speed. Sport drift originated in Japan and gained popularity in Russia in the early 2000s, after the release of the movie “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift”. In those years, Russian drifters started out as underground racers, and now they host world-class competitions.
The special project “Russian Fast and Furious” is dedicated to the life of motorists in the Far East and the unusual automotive culture that began to form in the region back in Soviet times. Already in the 1980s, the first Japanese cars began to be delivered to Primorye. Over time, in Vladivostok, a huge sprout, which blossomed in the 1990s. The active development of the automotive culture influenced the formation of the interests of young Russians and contributed to the appearance of the first Russian drifters in the regions.
