NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg declined to believe that Russia could pose a threat to the Baltic states. He stated this to Estonian Television, reports TASS…
“Despite the significant increase in Russia’s aggressiveness, there is currently no direct military threat to the Baltic states,” Stoltenberg said. At the same time, he will note that Russia still raises concerns about anxiety and requires special attention.
According to the NATO Secretary General, the alliance is observing the growing presence of Russia and a significant concentration of Russian forces in the Baltic region. “NATO is responding to this with a growing presence in the region, while at the same time stepping up in airspace protection at sea,” Stoltenberg said, adding that the alliance has increased the readiness of troops to respond quickly if necessary.
On October 21, German Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer said NATO must take a clear position on how to counter threats from Russia. According to her, Moscow regularly violates the airspace of the Baltic states and the Black Sea states. The head of the Ministry of Defense also accused the border of Belarus and the country community of cyber attacks and inciting migration restrictions.
