In Russia, pictograms of telephone scammers are recorded, which are represented by law enforcement officers. It is reported by edition Izvestia citing a study by Kaspersky Who Calls.
According to the newspaper, in September-October this year, the number of such similar “siloviks” has grown almost tenfold compared to January-February. It is noted that the fraudsters appear to be employees of state structures and law enforcement agencies, in particular, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the police.
Vitaly Vorobyov, the Kaspersky analyst who calls, said that Russians are less likely to receive calls from fake bank employees, because they know this scheme. Therefore, some of the fraudulent call centers have occupied a new niche and continue to work on scripts with an alleged call from the police, the expert explained. He also added that cybercriminals often address subscribers by first and last name, use legal terms and order data from a fake police officer’s ID.
Earlier, Alexander Timofeev, associate professor of the Department of Informatics of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, spoke about a new fraudulent scheme to defraud money from Russians. According to him, scammers have learned to use almost any phone number to deceive. Timofeev notes that even the official phone numbers of banks are unsafe now. Attackers spoof the phone numbers of loved ones and even use them for attacks.
