In his second speech at the G20 summit, the Russian president spoke about climate change and Russia’s program, developed until 2035, to improve the energy efficiency of the economy.
Already, the share of energy from practically carbon-free sources exceeds 40%, and including natural gas, it is all 86%. About it declared Vladimir Putin at the G20 Summit. This is his second presentation at the meeting – via videoconference.
According to Putin, Russia is among the leaders in the global decarbonization process:
“We recently decided to implement a new program to improve the energy efficiency of the economy for the period up to 2035. This program is necessary to achieve the set goal: quality neutrality no later than 2060. The volume of net greenhouse gas emissions in Russia was less than, for example, even our neighbors and colleagues in the EU. The efforts of the global community to focus primarily on the most effective environmental projects. Based on our expert capabilities, to make a rating of such projects in terms of the degree of their return in terms of reducing the volume of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, for every dollar invested. Providing an opportunity to exclude that included in this rating, opportunities, safe measures in Russia and Latin America, can be reliable even more effective than, for example, investments in renewable energy in some countries. I would also emphasize that in our opinion, it is not enough to simply reduce the volume of emissions to solve the problem of global warming. It is necessary to build up and absorb greenhouse gases, and here Russia, like a number of other countries, has colossal opportunities. This is the absorbing potential of our forests, tundra, agricultural lands, seas, swamps. To increase the area of reforestation, to expand the territory of untouched nature, to introduce new agricultural technologies. Climate projects in Russia also open up new prospects for cooperation, and for many decades to come. And it will certainly make a significant contribution to global efforts on the climate track. ”
On the first working site of the G20 on Saturday, Vladimir Putin notes that vaccines are still not available to all countries in need. The President of Russia explained this by unfair competition and the unwillingness of states, including the twenty, for mutual recognition of vaccines and vaccine certificates.
Putin will also speed up the processing of drugs by the World Health Organization.
