The Hanover region can be explored in 63 minutes: 21 short films of three minutes each show the diversity and beauty of the state capital and its 20 surrounding communities. The Hanover region commissioned the film project for its 20th birthday. Film teams were out and about for months and shot the strips.
In Seelze, two young people explore the city’s cultural life on a turquoise Vespa. In Burgdorf, culture enthusiasts tell what moves them in the plays of light. In Hanover, poetry slammer Ninia La Grande is thinking about her hometown. Of course you can see the Steinhuder Meer and the potash heaps, the vastness of the landscapes and the lively urban cultural life.
The short films were shown at a birthday reception for the region. THEY are “as diverse as the Hanover region and not only give a nice insight into the local cultural life”, the outgoing regional president Hauke Jagau, who will hand over the office to his successor Steffen Krach (both SPD) on November 1st. Jagau called the clips the calling cards of cities and municipalities. “
The project cost 200,000 euros. Actually, the sum in the 2021 budget was reserved for the cultural work in the cities and municipalities for autumn, so that the city of Hanover should be awarded the title European Capital of Culture 2025. After this project failed, the culture team in the region came up with the idea for the film project.
“We had the idea to make the cultural life in the cities and communities visible,” explains team leader Stefani Schulz. Freelance filmmakers could apply and were then drawn to the municipalities. A budget of 9,000 euros is available for each film. Half of the money went to the filmmakers and half to the local cultural scene.
In Ronnenberg, the Hanoverian filmmaker Nikolaj Georgiew relies on meditative aerial shots, in Pattensen André Schlechte lets the mayor Ramona Schumann speak, in Wedemark, among other things, Sophie Varady presents the cultural meeting place Brelinger Mitte. “From November cities and municipalities can use the films wherever they find useful”, says Stefani Schulz, “on their own homepage, but of course also at events.”
