Lavrov: Russia and South Korea held over 200 events within the framework of the Year of Mutual Exchanges – Politics

The program of the Year of Mutual Exchanges between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Korea has been successfully implemented, within its framework, more than 200 joint events took place, both remotely and in person. This was announced on Wednesday by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
“Today we are completing one of the largest projects in the modern history of Russian-Korean relations. The extensive and varied program of the Year of Mutual Exchanges has been successfully implemented, more than 200 events have been held both remotely and in person, ”he summed up the results at the closing ceremony of the Year of Mutual Exchanges between Russia and South Korea.
According to him, bilateral cooperation in the humanitarian sphere continues to expand, and the recent tours of art groups, exhibitions, festivals and other events “revealed the growing interest of Russians and Koreans in studying the culture, way of life of each other, and contributed to mutual understanding and rapprochement of peoples.” The implementation of the Year’s program will also contribute to the activation of scientific and practical conferences by the leading universities of the two countries.
In addition, the Russian Foreign Minister also drew attention to the opening ceremony of the “Russian Seasons” held on October 2 in Seoul. “Within their framework, within the framework of Korea, a series of performances and concerts with the participation of leading Russian art masters are planned, which, I have no doubt, will arouse great interest among the Korean audience,” Lavrov said. An important event was the conference “30 years of Russian-Korean contacts in the field of culture and art: results and a picture of the future”, organized by the Gorchakov Foundation for the Support of Public Diplomacy and the Korean-Russian Society and Art.

2020 was declared the Year of Mutual Exchanges between Russia and the Republic of Korea, however, not all planned events were carried out on time due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. By the decision of the leaders of the countries, the thematic Year was extended until the end of 2021.
