The tracks between Hanover and Hildesheim are to be released again for S-Bahn and metronome trains in the course of the afternoon – at least partially. On Saturday there was a fire near Sarstedt.
According to the private transport company Metronom, only one track should be usable for the time being. Therefore, trains could still be late. Buses are currently being used on S-Bahn line 4 between Hildesheim and the Laatzen exhibition center, the S3 is being diverted in this area. The metronome travels over Hildesheim and also stops there.
Fire triggered by short circuit
On Saturday morning, a freight train hit an overhead line that a train ahead had torn down. According to the police, this caused a short circuit that triggered the fire. One wagon burned out completely.
Estimated damage of 150,000 euros
A problem with the extinguishing work was the wind: After the fire broke out, it kept blowing sparks in the direction of a nearby gas station, according to a spokesman for the federal police. Due to the smoke development, residents were sometimes asked to keep windows and doors closed. The emergency services estimate the damage at around 150,000 euros. Nobody got hurt.
