ALL ANTWERP. “I have already had five deliveries) independently … (Antwerp

Every weekday our reporter and photographer pick a casual passer-by off the street for a nice conversation. Want everyone has a story. And certainly in Antwerp. Today: Priscilla Boateng (23).
“I’m going to do a ten-week internship in Ghana this year. Very exciting, I wish I haven’t been there for a long time. I am from that country and came here to study six years ago. originally I wanted to study Midwifery in Belgium and then go back to my home country with that knowledge. But I’m not 100% sure of that plan anymore.”
“That internship will be a good time to see if it’s really something for me to work there. After that I better decide whether to go back for good or not. I am curious about the many differences between care here and there. But first I have to finish my eight-week Belgian internship here. Those are hard, but beautiful days. I have already been able to supervise five deliveries independently and have assisted with ten deliveries. At the end of the training, we must have performed 40 births independently.”
“Giving birth is a wonderful moment to experience up close. It is equally difficult for the mothers, but it is nice to see how they react when the baby is placed in their arms. Complications arose in a few deliveries. Then we have to be alert and intervene quickly. Unfortunately, I now experience from the front row what can go wrong during childbirth. A healthy and healthy mom is the most important thing, I have certainly learned that.”
