Smíchov and Podolí will unite a majority for a billion. Cars cannot be driven on it Prague 5 | From the region Pražská Drbna
Prague has publicly announced a contract for the contractor for the construction of the Dvorecký Bridge between Smíchov and Podolí. The bridge will be used for public transport, pedestrians and cyclists. The 388-meter-long and 16-meter-wide bridge will cost an estimated one billion crowns. The construction work should take about two and a half years.
Dvorecký bridge will be only for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport
According to the mayor of Prague 5, the bridge could be completed in about five years. “It was decided whether the Dvorecký bridge could also be used for cars, because Prague 4 and Prague 5 have only one bridge between them, Barrandovský. In the end, it will serve primarily pedestrians, cyclists and public transport vehicles, “ told the mayor of Prague 5 for Prague Gossip Renáta Zajíčková (ODS). The purpose of the bridge only for public transport, cyclists and pedestrians is based on changes in the Spatial Plan from 2014. If necessary, vehicles of the Integrated Rescue System will also be able to drive over the bridge.
It is for the Prague public transport that the planned connection between Smíchov and Podolí is one of the most fundamental constructions of the following years. “It will become the nucleus of the so-called southern tram tangent connecting important tram lines leading from Barrandov and Modřany. Some tram lines have a shorter journey of up to six reasons compared to the detour over the Palacký Bridge, “ said the deputy mayor of Prague for transport Adam Scheinherr (Prague itself) and added that thanks to the new bridge, some bus lines will be operated outside the Barrandov Bridge.
According to Scheinherr, most will also be of great benefit in terms of the connection of friendly cycle paths, which run along both banks and are created by replacing the connection over the busy Barrandov Bridge.
The order was not just about price
The Dvorecký Bridge construction project has the highest priority both in the Sustainable Mobility Plan and in the Tram Line Development Strategy. According to Scheinherr, the public contract is set up so that it depends not only on the price, but also on the long warranty period, long constructions and professional qualifications, so that the new one has the highest quality.
“The application will also include lists of completed construction work, lists of technicians, certificates of education and professional qualifications with a description of the technical equipment with which the company will work. I am sure that the construction of the Dvorecký Bridge will be in good hands, “ describes Scheinherr.
Cubist landscape and Kinter statue
The eastern exit of the bridge will be at Žluté lázně north of Jeremenkova street. West then near the tram stop Lihovar. Part of the project is the design of a new tram and bus stop Dvorecký most.
The authors of the winning design are the architects from the ATELIER 6 and TUBES studios. In searching for a shape solution, the authors were inspired by František Mencl, who was a bridge designer for the capital city of Prague in the first half of the 20th century.
The space under the bridge is created by the visual artist Krištof Kintera in the form of a work of art. Under the Dvorecký Bridge, a multifunctional imaginary Cubist landscape and a “botanical garden” of street lighting should be created. In addition to the cultural arena, the project also includes a café with refreshments, a picnic zone and Kinter’s author’s statue.
