Cavemen found new domes full of stalactites in the Moravian Karst Company News Brněnská Drbna
The cavers found four hitherto undiscovered domes in the Moravian Karst near Macocha, which are full of stalactites. However, the public does not just look at them, they have to abseil them, said Michal Šenkýř from the Basic Speleological Organization 6-20 Moravian Karst of the Czech Speleological Society.
“We started digging out of the Glass Dome, which is part of the Punkva Caves, through such an inconspicuous corridor. After extracting about 100 buckets of sediment, we got into a large corridor, which is about 50 meters long. From that corridor then lead the abyss to the first two domes. When we climbed into them, we have to see two more domes. ” said Šenkýř. According to him, the largest has an area of about five times ten meters, the height is about 25 meters. “There is a really rich stalactite decoration in them, there are basically all kinds of stalactites that are known,” said the caveman.
The discovered domes have not yet been named, so far they only have working names. The public does not look at them, due to the difficult access by ropes. According to Šenkýř, discoveries in the locality were to be expected, because in the 1980s a geophysical measurement was carried out there, which revealed certain anomalies. According to the caveman in the place, moreover, not everything may have been discovered. “We need to map it all out first and see where it could go next.” said Šenkýř.
In May this year, cavemen informed about the last size of the period of discovery in the Moravian Karst. They got into it through the so-called Ševčík’s hole by the road between Lažánky and Vilémovice.
There are over 1100 caves in the karst. The most famous are the Punkva Caves, where people sail in boats along the river Punkva and which are connected with the abyss Macocha. The largest, however, is the Amateur Cave system, which is over 40 days long. The discoveries of larger caves are already exceptional, the karst is mostly explored.
