Turnout has often exceeded 50 percent, with as many as 70 percent
Prague – Until today, more than 50 percent of eligible voters often voted in the elections to the Chamber of Deputies; in some cases, turnout reached 70 percent. Some constituencies, for example in Karlovy Vary, are already reporting more interest than in the last elections four years ago. In the parliamentary elections four years ago, almost 61 percent of eligible voters voted. It was more than in 2013, but also the third lowest participation since the establishment of the Czech Republic. The least interest was in the parliamentary elections in 2002, when 58 percent of voters came to the polls. On the contrary, the highest turnout so far was in the first parliamentary elections after the establishment of the Czech Republic, in 1996 more than 76 percent of voters came to elect their deputies.
In the Karlovy Vary region, the elected constituencies still report higher interest in the elections this morning than in previous years. Some of them had a turnout of around 50 percent in Karlovy Vary before 11:00 and exceeded the overall turnout in the last parliamentary elections. The higher interest is also confirmed in Cheb, where more than half of the voters came in the morning and others walk. Electoral commissions state that there are also people who do not go to the polls, not only young people, but also older voters who admit that they are going to vote for the first time.
Interest in the Liberec region is not declining, people are still coming, but according to a CTK survey, the situation has calmed down, so this morning the queues at polling stations are no longer being formed. Attendance exceeded 40 percent, but in many places they reported more than 50 percent attendance in the morning. At one of the districts on Žižkov vrch in Jablonec nad Nisou, almost 65 percent of the registered voters were recalled today at 10:00. Probably the highest participation so far is reported in Bedřichov in the Jizera Mountains, where the ČT Author Cup mountain bike race started in the morning with the participation of several thousand competitors. There are 272 local voters in the village. “Even in the morning before the start, the competitors went to the polls, 267 people with a ballot card had already called us off, we had another set of ballot papers and envelopes sent to us,” said the recorder Regína Keltnerová.
In southern Bohemia, participation ranges from 40 to 70 percent. It was 40 percent in the district at one school in Tábor, and over 50 percent in one district in Kardašov Řečice. More than 67 percent of the 250 possible voters came to Kostelní Radoun. In the municipality of Mnich, where there are 64 eligible voters, the turnout is 70 percent, three voters came with a voting card. Participation in a district in České Budějovice is approaching 50 percent in the morning, where there was more interest in the elections on Friday than today.
According to their spokespersons, the turnout in most of Prague’s city districts exceeded half of eligible voters. In Prague 1, which includes the city center, but also in Prague 9 and Prague 14, which are mainly large housing estates, about 55 percent have voted so far. A similar turnout is also in Prague 3. So far, 54.17 percent have arrived in Prague 2, 59 percent in Prague 6, 60.7 percent in the 10th district and even 63 percent in Prague 7.
At 10:00, turnout in the South Moravian Region was 53.26 percent, according to regional spokeswoman Alena Knotková. Most people came to Boskovice in the Blansko region, at 65 percent. Over 60 percent of voters were also welcomed by some Brno city districts, such as Útěchov or Komín.
“The participation is estimated at around 40 percent,” we recommend Miroslava Chlebounová from the Moravian-Silesian Regional Authority. The region’s estimates are confirmed, for example, by Lukáš Hudeček, a spokesman for the Karviná municipality. “An estimated 39 percent of eligible voters arrived at the polls in Karviná by 10:00 today,” he said.
The average turnout in the Ústí nad Labem region is 43.2 percent so far, Magdalena Fraňková, a spokeswoman for the regional office, told ČTK. According to Luďek Stínil, a spokesman for the municipality, about 45.6 percent was in Děčín after 10:00. Low turnout is in socially excluded localities. For example, in the Předlice district of Ústí nad Labem, according to the electoral commissioner, there was 5.68 percent of one district’s attendance at today’s 10-hour turnout. In the last regional elections there was a turnout of 2.23 percent, in the last parliamentary elections 7.91 percent. On the contrary, people still come to polling places in city centers, for example, in the Ladov primary school in Litoměřice, according to the election commissioner, 52 percent of voters took part.
In the Olomouc Region, turnout in large cities is around 50 percent; according to members of election commissions, people still go to the polls, CTK found out. For example, at the Stupkova primary school in Olomouc, 55 percent of voters already cast their votes by 11:00. “People are still walking, you can see that the interest is great. Young and older generations go, “a member of the election commission told ČTK today. The situation is similar in Olomouc in other constituencies. Attendance in district number 9 at E. Valenty Elementary School climbed to 55 percent. “Now there is a slowdown, but I think we would have enough to more than 60 percent,” said a member of the commission.
According to Jan Nový from the regional office, turnout in the Plzeň Region is between 50 and 60 percent. “For example, in Klabava it was 67 percent, in Sušice 60, somewhere even more,” he told ČTK. However, some districts have a low turnout, for example in Pilsen in one of the districts, where people apply for permanent residence at the city district office, the turnout is so far about 8.5 percent, a member of the commission told ČTK.
Similarly, in the Vysočina region, the interest in the addressed districts is up to 60 percent, but today it is less than on Friday. According to Jitka Svatošová, a spokeswoman for the Vysočina Region, especially in the Žďár region, the commissioners are meeting the demand of people with voting cards to use ballots from other regions. However, voters in the Vysočina region must use a set of tickets intended for the Vysočina Region. “It is essential for the validity of the vote. Unfortunately, it is not possible to use ballot papers issued in another region,” we say Svatošová.
In the addressed cities in the Hradec Králové Region, the participation exceeded 50 percent. So far, an estimated 56 percent of eligible voters have cast their ballots in Hradec Králové, around 55 percent in Náchod and Dvůr Králové nad Labem, and approximately 54 percent in Trutnov, city representatives said.
More than half of the eligible voters also held elections in the larger cities of the Zlín Region, according to statements by town hall representatives for ČTK. In Zlín, the turnout at 10:00 was 54.36 percent. In Uherské Hradiště, 54.1 percent of eligible voters reached the polls at the same time, but more than 60 percent in five of the districts there. In Vsetín, about 54 percent of voters have so far voted in the predominantly local constituency in Rokytnice, and 58.9 percent of voters in the smallest district in Semetín. In Kroměříž, the continuous participation was about 52 percent, in Otrokovice in the Zlín region about 51 percent.
In the Pardubice Region, the addressed commissions from the polling stations of Česká Třebová in the Orlickoústecko region, Heřmanova Městec in the Chrudim region or Chrudim estimate the turnout at around 53 to 60 percent.
In larger Central Bohemian cities, about 55 percent of travel is most often involved. It is slightly smaller in Kladno with 49 percent.
