Prague will light up at the weekend. The ninth year of the Signal Festival will take place Culture | News Pražská Drbna
From Thursday the 14th to Sunday the 17th of October, the traditional festival of light will take place in the streets of Prague. Thanks to the Signa Festival, as every year, a unique performance of visual art will take place in Prague. In addition, as a complete novelty, the festival organizers will offer mobile applications with augmented reality.
The screenings will take place in the center, in Karlín and in Holešovice
The festival is organized into three routes, which will lead visitors to individual installations, video mappings and screenings. One of the routes leads, as usual, through the Old Town, the other is in Karlín and the third is also new in Holešovice. In addition to the marked routes, which are available on the festival website, an accompanying program is prepared for visitors.
The festival will be marked by sustainability
This year’s organizers have dedicated the topic of ecology, sustainability, and above all, skills are the same. This highlights the changes we have all undergone since the onset of the pandemic. “I am very glad that the Signal Festival saw the crisis as an opportunity. We as a city have stood up to this period and accelerated the digitization processes. So we are going in one direction, even though we have not coordinated in any way. “ said the mayor of Prague at a press conference Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates).
A prominent Czech artist, for example, worked with the theme of ecology in her installation Milena Dopitová, which work you can see at the hydroelectric power plants in Štvanice. He got involved too Jiří Černický, visual artist and teacher at the Prague Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design, or duo Vrtiška and Žák with an interactive installation called Blooming Light.
The application takes visitors to a new dimension
The novelty of this year is the mobile application, which every visitor can download to their phone for free. Thanks to it, he will be able to walk the fourth, special route that leads through Karlín, Prague. It will be possible to discover unsuspected works of art in the streets over the phone. Unlike the classic routes, this one will be available after the end of the festival, for at least one year.
The program of the festival, which has been held in Prague every year since 2013, is prepared by leading Czech and foreign artists dealing with visual and digital art and lighting design. Installations will be available to visitors from Thursday to Sunday, always from seven o’clock in the evening until midnight. For the most part, they will be accessible free of charge, admission is valid only for some special screenings.
